I'm trying to be nice

I was a regular here a few years back. It looks sort of depressing today. A new paint job, but little has changed for the better. The restroom smells rank. The few customers in the place are unfriendly. The gay bar next door closed, so maybe that took some patrons away. Some of the bartenders are nice, but others have stuck up attitudes. They play canned music- for some reason the jukebox is never on. The small space should encourage a cozy intimate feeling, but all it does is heighten the general feeling of tired old men. This place does truly need a serious make over. I gave it 3 stars to be charitable, considering I have fond memories and the owners are nice guys.

Blew me away...in a bad way

I went to college in Akron, so I had more or less fun recollections. Recently went over to check things out- bored with Cleveland- and was sorry I went. I admit I'm not the hottest guy in the world, but I'm not dogmeat either, yet the bartender was cold and none of the customers would give me the time of day. They had a lame ass game show on the tv, and out of sheer boredom, I played the jukebox (just regular gay dance songs) and a handful of guys actually got up and went outside to smoke as soon as my songs started- I guess that was their way of telling me I wasn't wanted. I tried to strike up a conversation with a guy a barstool over, but he was engrossed in the above mentioned game show. I can't believe guys call this bar the most fun place in Akron. It's strictly for trolls, old men, and guys without a social life. A sad day for Tearez.

Please someone take over

Is this the kind of bar you would like to go to if you are visiting another city, other than Akron? Probably not. It's unfriendly, you have to kiss the bartenders ass to get a drink. It's a total laughing stock, it's dirty, and I would be embarrassed to bring someone from out of town there.

An Akron Legend

Tearez began at another location and relocated to South Main more than a few years ago. People either love it or hate it. Honestly, it's not as busy as it once was. Since about 2001, for whatever reason, the bar's business has declined. Maybe the smoking ban aggravated the decline, who knows? Anyway, the drag divas and varied assortment of old men, college twinks, and bi curious folks still patronize the bar. It's just not as lively and fun as it used to be. Last time I went, the formerly blasting Sunday evening show was sad. A mostly empty bar with a mediocre lip-sinching. Parking is always a problem, but the area is usually safe. Hopefull things will pick up. They could use some new blood, in terms of bartenders and customers. Everyone knows "Cregger," everyone's favorite gay uncle/daddy. Gary, one of the owners, is also a beloved figure. Steve has his followers too. Haven't gone as much as I used to, so maybe some details have changed. When it's fun, you don't want to leave. It's always a good place to begin your night or end it. The men's room used to have a "notorious" reputation around last call.
